Applying to MICRO

Welcome to The Materials Initiative for Comprehensive Research Opportunity! Applications are underway for the Fall '22 semester.

The MICRO program aims to expand research opportunities for talented students who are members of groups historically underrepresented in science and technology. This includes: 

  • Members of an ethnic or racial group historically underrepresented in graduate science and technology programs (Black/African American, American Indian/Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian or other Native Pacific Islander, Hispanic/Latinx)
  • First-generation college student who will be the first person in my family to graduate from a four-year college.
  • Students who have had to overcome other significant challenges in my path toward graduate school/a research career. (Examples include, but are not limited to managing a disability, being of a gender or orientation that is historically underrepresented in your chosen field of study, serving in the US military, or facing hardship as a result of your family's financial circumstances.)

MICRO admissions are based upon the following:

  • Application
  • Transcripts
  • Resume/CV
  • Letter(s) of recommendation (optional, but highly recommended)
